Powering the Future: Dholera’s World-Class Energy Infrastructure

Spread the love

Dholera : At the heart of every great industrial city lies a reliable, scalable power system. For Dholera Smart City — India’s first greenfield smart city — power infrastructure has been built not as an afterthought, but as a foundation. And in 2026, that foundation is fully operational and already drawing some of the world’s biggest investors.

☀️ The Solar Park: Clean Power at Scale

The crown jewel of Dholera’s energy ecosystem is its Dholera Solar Park, one of the largest renewable energy facilities in Asia. A 300 MW solar power park is already commissioned and fully operational, actively catering to the region’s growing electricity demands while significantly reducing the city’s carbon footprint. Looking ahead, the long-term target is an ambitious 5,000 MW capacity — a figure that would make Dholera one of the most solar-powered industrial zones on the planet.

This clean energy focus is not just environmental — it is strategic. When US-based Tillman Global announced its $10 billion data centre in Dholera in 2026, one of the primary reasons cited was the reliable, solar-powered green energy supply. For semiconductor fabs, data centres, and EV manufacturers, clean and large-scale power is non-negotiable — and Dholera delivers.

🔌 Underground Power Grid: No Poles, No Disruptions

Dholera is India’s first city to implement complete underground utility ducting across its entire planned area. Every power cable runs through sealed underground ducts beneath the city’s wide road network. There are no overhead power lines. No utility poles. No exposed wires.

This design choice has three major advantages:

  • Reliability — Underground cables are far less vulnerable to storms, flooding, or accidents.
  • Urban Quality — The absence of overhead wires gives Dholera a genuinely modern, clean cityscape comparable to Singapore or Dubai.
  • Future-Proofing — Underground ducting allows power capacity upgrades without ever digging up roads again.

⚡ Tata Power & Torrent Power: Dual-Source Supply

To ensure uninterrupted industrial-grade electricity, Dholera’s power distribution is backed by two of India’s most trusted energy companies — Tata Power and Torrent Power. Both have established substations within the SIR and supply 24×7 uninterrupted electricity across the activation area. This dual-source model eliminates single-point failure risk — critical for sensitive industries like semiconductor manufacturing that cannot tolerate even a momentary power cut.

🖥️ Smart Power Management via Command & Control Centre

All power distribution in Dholera is monitored in real time through the city’s Command and Control Centre (CCC) — a centralised smart dashboard that tracks electricity flow, detects faults, manages streetlights, and coordinates emergency responses across the entire SIR. This level of integrated power management is standard in global smart cities like Singapore and Amsterdam, and Dholera is among the first Indian cities to implement it from inception — not as a retrofit.

🏭 Industry-Grade Capacity: Built for the Future

Dholera’s power grid has been engineered to handle the heavy, continuous loads of modern high-tech industries:

  • The Tata–PSMC Semiconductor Fab requires massive, ultra-stable clean power for cleanroom operations.
  • Tillman Global’s data centre will run thousands of servers around the clock.
  • Upcoming EV battery clusters and aerospace manufacturing units will demand substantial industrial power.

The grid is being scaled in phases to accommodate this industrial growth, with renewable energy expansion ensuring that growth remains green and sustainable.

🌱 A Green Power Model for India

Dholera’s power infrastructure represents a new template for Indian urban development. By combining solar energy, underground cabling, dual private-sector suppliers, and AI-driven smart management, Dholera has built a power ecosystem that most established Indian cities are still decades away from achieving.

As industries continue to arrive and the city scales up, Dholera’s energy infrastructure is not just keeping pace — it is leading the way.
